The Imperial War Museum

It's a really beautiful building in the middle of a park

On Saturday we decided to do some tourist things and went to The Imperial War Museum. I'd been before when I was a kid, and as an adult I was a little worried that it might rely on cliché and glorify war.

Dorothy Lawrence as Private Denis Smith

It was actually pretty good though, there was a lot about the wider impacts of war, and even an exhibit of anti-war artwork (unfortunately couldn't take photos in that one).

Children's Gas Mask

A mantra I can live by

This one to.
Although it was great that something from Stop the War Coalition was in the museum, there was no mention of how the media tried to smear the group five or so years ago and tried to claim that they were funding terrorism (which was completely unfounded).

The cafe was very overpriced, £3.50 for a tiny cup of Earl Grey! Still I mostly enjoyed the day.

Breakfast in Elephant and Castle

Just what I needed
Torture Garden ended up being fantastic, much better than Antichrist in my opinion, and despite being much, much busier nobody touched me without asking at TG, however it went on until the wee hours of the morning, so when we had to check out of our hotel after just a few hours sleep we were like zombies and so had to find a "greasy spoon" cafe for breakfast.

Kev: I'm not that hungry, I'll just have something small

Pasha

Part of my Torture Garden Outfit

On our first night in London we stayed in a very strange hotel near Elephant and Castle called Pasha that was both comfortable and affordable as well as being near enough to the venue that Torture Garden was held at, though it was still a very odd hotel.

Went to London, brought our own snacks

The entrance-way looked like something from a Roger Moore era James Bond film. There were fish tanks with koi carp everywhere and there were plastic vines on the walls and ceiling, and the room we ended up in had a wall that was entirely mirrored o.0

Train Games

Our train to London had game boards on the tables

No pieces though so we had to improvise!

An Interview About My Design Process

A longer version of the interview that aired on Kawaii International last year. Things ended up being slower because of my panic attacks :/

Modern Day Venus

#bottishellfi

For my birthday weekend Kev and I went to London, I will post more about our trip over the next few days, but I had to share these two photos of us from the Victoria and Albert Museum, there was an exhibit called Botticelli re-imagined, which unfortunately we didn't manage to see as the museum is so huge that we didn't get around to it, but near the entrance to the V&A is a large shell in the entrance way that you can take photos in for instagram with tag suggestions of #bottishellfi and #botticellireimagined.
Of course we both had to have a go.

Not Every Positive News Piece Meets With My Approval

What a gross and objectifying letter about corseted women from the Toronto Daily Mail in 1883.

My Waist When...

My waist when:
Someone tries to tell me that you can’t do anything and have to sit around on a fainting couch looking pathetic if you tightlace.

Pop Stars from 2005

Is tight-lacing dangerous? Of Corset-s not!

Super fascinating video with an autopsy technician featuring the "tightlacers liver" that gets wheeled out a lot as evidence of corsets straight up murdering people.

27. It Doesn't Get Better, You Just Get Better At Dealing With It

"It gets better" was a piece of advice that, while always given with the best intentions, is something that for me at least I've found to not really be true.
Homophobes are still homophobic, violent people still violent, and while I have a lot of great things in my life and I do generally feel a lot more positive than I did when I was a teenager, actually there are a lot of things I have to deal with now that are worse than the struggles I had then, but I'm ok, I did learn to deal with things better, I still take bad things hard, but I appreciate the good things more.
